Our Team

Dr. Rafael Rabines was born and raised in San Diego, CA and received his undergraduate degree in Zoology from Sonoma State University in Northern California.

After graduating, he spent 3 years studying the effects of urbanization on local wildlife. Eventually realizing he wanted to work more directly with animals and people, he elected to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He received a M.S in Animals and Public Policy from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine where he studied socioeconomic impacts on the human-animal bond. Dr. Rabines received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University and after attending his clinical year at the University of Florida, he completed a rotating internship at VCA Hotel circle. Dr. Rabines has special interests in community and preventive medicine, surgery, and emergency care.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending his time outdoors, tending to his garden, and cooking. He has a dog named Benny that he adopted while living in the Caribbean.

As a La Jolla High School alumni, Dr. Rabines is very excited to return to the neighborhood.

Dr. Blumenthal grew up in Michigan surrounded by horses and Standard Poodles. She earned her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2014 from Michigan State University. While a career in Equine medicine originally brought her to San Diego, her husband and his hometown of La Jolla kept her here! She now enjoys working with companion animals and is known for providing compassionate and individualized care that improves the quality of life for pets their families. Dr. Blumenthal’s advanced training and certifications in veterinary acupuncture, animal chiropractics, and canine rehabilitation/physical therapy provide her with additional tools to address pain management and mobility concerns.

Dr. Blumenthal has a Goldendoodle named Cooper and a horse named Cassian. She enjoys barre classes, baking, and sharing her love of animals with her son.
